Common questions

Do I need a phone number?

No. You sign up with a @username and verify a Gmail address once. Nobody you chat with sees your Gmail.

What can my username be?

Free usernames need 4 or more letters and at least one number, for example @lakshmi7. You can use letters, numbers and _ (underscore).

I forgot my password. Can you reset it?

No — your password creates the key that unlocks your chats, and we never see it. Keep it somewhere safe. If you still have your phone signed in, your chats stay there.

Why am I asked for a code when I log in?

The first time you sign in on a new phone or browser, we email a code to your Gmail to make sure it is really you. After that, your username and password are enough on that device.

Can BharatApp Chat read my messages?

No. Messages are encrypted on your device and deleted from our server once delivered. BharatApp Chat never saves your history.

How do I move to a new phone?

Turn on Google Drive backup in Settings → Backup. On the new phone, sign in with your username and password and your chats come back from your Drive.

How do I delete my account?
